semi trailer rollover shut down I-80 westbound between Route 30 and I-355 before 8:45 a.m.. Thursday, Dec. 26.

The rollover occurred just past the bridge over Route 30 in New Lenox in a two-lane construction zone.

Traffic is being redirected to I-355 northbound, and drivers should use alternate routes as it will be shut down for an extended amount of time, according to a press release from Illinois State Police. The I-355 southbound and I-80 westbound ramps are also closed.

The truck tractor contained liquid Phosphoric Acid, which was leaking from the trailer, causing a hazmat situation, according to the release.

Police said people in the area should take necessary precautions to prevent injury.

The semi has been uprighted and crews are working on getting the roadway back open.

However, at this time we do not have an ETA on when this stretch of I-80 will reopen. Please avoid this area and take alternate routes until otherwise notified.
