When Matthew Shepard was murdered in Wyoming on Oct. 12, 1998, Jane F. Cox was a student at Marian Catholic. Her friend had just come out as gay, so the story struck a personal chord.

The Tinley Park resident knew she had to stand up for LGBTQ rights, which she has supported for years. On Friday, Oct. 1; Saturday, Oct. 2; and Sunday, Oct. 3; Cox will direct “The Laramie Project” at Governors State University.
