At Casa Vargas in Frankfort, touches of Mexican culture are everywhere.

A sign featuring a smiling moon above “bienvenidos” — the Spanish word for welcome — greets customers as they order at the counter. A pair of red and yellow maracas peeks out of the tip jar next to the cash register. And bright papel picado designs — a type of artwork created by cutting patterns into sheets of tissue paper — add bursts of color to the scene.
