A Joliet man faces criminal charges after shoving a Frankfort Mariano’s loss prevention officer who attempted to detain him as he left the store with unpaid merchandise on May 3, according to the Frankfort Police Department.

Michael H. Bernacki, 31, of 515 Knox Place, was charged with felony retail theft and misdemeanor battery in connection with the incident.

Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan said the loss prevention officer saw Bernacki enter the store alone and recognized him from previous incidents of theft at other Mariano’s locations.
