Thanks to a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Frankfort Police Department is embarking on a campaign to identify inattentive drivers and spread public awareness of the dangers of distracted driving.

The $4,200 in state funding was used to hire back eight officers during their off-time, Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan said. Throughout the month of April, these officers will conduct 21 details in three-hour blocks, with the primary focus on identifying instances of distracted driving.
