Brick by brick, walls were built from the ground up.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, 10 area masons and their tenders competed in the annual Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 regional competition held at Tri-State Cut Stone and Brick in Frankfort. Each masonry team was tasked with building the largest possible wall, with the least amount of errors, in one hour.
“What a great way to spend the day, enjoy[ing] what you do for a living,” said Gary Murino, owner of Tri-State Cut Stone and Brick. “This is life for us. The market is shrinking, but our revenue is growing.”
