Connor Kubik did not want his opportunity to take over as the lead running back for Lincoln-Way East to come about the way that it did, but the junior was ready to step up when called upon.

After senior Devon Williams was injured on the first play from scrimmage, Kubik rose to the occasion by running for 141 yards on 14 carries as the Griffins cruised to a 40-0 win over Plainfield South in their Class 8A playoff opener Friday, Nov. 1.

East (10-0) now awaits a second-round game against the winner of the Saturday, Nov. 2 game between Notre Dame and Barrington.
